Twist Updo

I did these two strand twist about two weeks ago because I just needed a little break from doing my hair. I rarely twist my hair anymore and it was hard for me to put my hair into an updo style since my hair is much shorter now due to my recent layered bob cut. These were done on damp hair but next time I will do them on stretched hair to get more length. I plan to start doing twist more often especially when the weather gets hot.
Wash and Go
I took down the twist and cowashed last night. My hair is a bit frizzy but any time I disturb my curl pattern by combing or doing a different style my wash and go's take a little time to get back to their curl and glory.
AKA "Ole Faithful"

I used a new product combo for my hair this time. I'll let you ladies know the products used and my thoughts on them after I have tried them for a couple of more uses.

Nail Polish *Starfish*

Sinful Colors "Starfish"

I love pink nail polish but most colors that I come across are too loud and bright for my taste. I picked up this color at Walgreen's for $1.99. It is a beautiful pink color. This color is subtle and really compliments darker skin tones. I am not crazy about the brand name but hey for $1.99 I'm willing to overlook it as long as I don't start acting crazy.

Home Remedies for Thinning Brows

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Many women experience thinning of the eyebrows as they get older. Hair thinning over time is a natural part of aging. This natural process can effect any area of the body where hair is present including our eyebrows.

The most common cause of eyebrow loss is over plucking them during the younger years. This practice can permanently damage the hair follicles causing the hair not to grow back. Rubbing the eyebrows and using eyebrow pencils to roughly can also make brows sparse over time.

There are many home remedies that are known for restoring growth on the eyebrows. Some of the best known are:

Castor Oil: This oil is natural and contains fatty acids which can stimulate the hair follicles causing growth and fullness.

Olive Oil: Can stimulate hair growth while making the hair more conditioned.

Aloe Vera Gel: Has soothing properties and can stimulate hair growth.

Massage the remedy of choice on the brows nightly before bedtime. These are not quick fixes and results may not be seen for months. I suggest taking before and after pictures. Pictures are a great way to document any hair growth journey.

God Bless,
Von

My Hair Story

Old Wash and Go

I got my first relaxer at the age of 10. My mom asked me if I wanted a relaxer and I eagerly said yes so my hair would be like the people that I saw on TV. I wandered why all of a sudden she decided to let me relax my hair. Well it turned out that my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and she was gradually becoming physically unable to take care of my thick waist length natural hair. I got a perm and soon after my mom had a debilitating stroke that left her paralyzed and unable to speak. Well of coarse my hair started to break off and by the time my mom passed away which was when I was 11 my hair looked pitiful. With no other woman in the home I did the best I could with my hair and was relieved when the newest hair trend hit Black America yes I'm talkin bout the Jheri Curl. Every night I applied my activator gel and spray then proceeded to pick the dead gnats out of my hair that had succumbed to the juice at some point during the day. I put on my plastic cap and in the morning I would let my soul glow. I gave up the juice during my teen years and started to relax again. I kept my hair short until 2006 because my hair would get to shoulder length and then break off. In 2006 I joined a hair forum and started to protective style and stretch my relaxers and eventually my hair grew to mid back length. I then tried to transition a few times and did the big chop once only to relax again shortly thereafter. Over the years I have been relaxed, texturized, and texlaxed. Finally in May 2010 I began my final transition which lasted for 18 months. I love my natural hair and have no plans on ever relaxing again.
